LEADERSHIP STYLE FOR SERVANT-LEADER -LEADERSHIP

leader helping followers climb sucess ladder

Introduction

One strategy that stands out in ethical leadership is servant leadership. Servant leadership is now recognized as an efficient and moral approach due to its focus on empathy, kindness, and meeting the needs of others (Kenton, 2022). We will explore the idea of focusing on the personal style of servant leaders in this blog post. We will examine the fundamentals of servant leadership, use pertinent theories, give examples from real-world situations, and then offer our own opinions backed by theoretical analysis and practical advice.

Comparing and Contrasting factor in Management and Leadership

Comparing and contrasting servant leadership with conventional management and leadership styles is crucial to comprehend its core principles. Research on leadership identifies fundamental parallels and divergences between management and servant leadership, illuminating why the latter might be a successful strategy (How Servant Leadership Is Different from Other Leadership Styles, 2023).

Similarities in Management and Leadership

Managing and persuading others to accomplish goals is a component of both management and servant leadership (Team, 2021). They need the capacity for motivation, inspiration, good communication, and decision-making. Both strategies are essential to an organization's success.

Differences in Management and Leadership

Servant leadership is centered on people, empathy, and service, whereas management is focused on tasks, processes, and control. Servant leaders foster a helpful and empowering work environment by prioritizing their team members' development (Team, 2021). Servant leaders, in contrast to conventional hierarchical organisations, lead by example and prioritise the needs of others.

The Most Effective Approach to Managing Sub-ordinates

Based on the research, it is clear that servant leadership is a very successful method for overseeing the work of subordinates (Schooley, 2019). Servant leaders foster an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, and respect. Servant leaders prioritise their subordinates' needs to enable them to realise their full potential, which boosts employee satisfaction, engagement, and productivity (Mind Tools, 2022).

Servant leaders strongly emphasize encouraging a culture of growth while offering direction, mentoring, and support. They cherish the efforts of their team members and actively listen to them (Kumar, 2023). Higher levels of motivation and performance result from this strategy since it fosters a sense of ownership and dedication among subordinates.

Answering the CMI 2013 Point of View

Taking into account the CMI 2013's point of view, we discover that we concur with the premise that there is not a single best method of leadership. Servant leadership recognises the uniqueness of leaders and followers, understanding that the appropriate course of action may change depending on the situation and the individual involved. Servant leadership is flexible and empathic, enabling customization and response to the many requirements of individuals and teams.

Examples of Good and Bad Leaders

Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi were good leaders who demonstrated servant leadership. Their humbleness, unselfish commitment to helping others, and emphasis on empowering and elevating the underprivileged are examples of servant leadership (Jambar, 2022).

On the other hand, situations where self-interest, a lack of empathy, and unethical behaviour rule the day are examples of weak leadership (Staff, 2021). These bosses put their interests ahead of the welfare of their staff and the community.

Reflection as a Team Member

Being managed or led by a servant leader would benefit a team member. I value a leader who exhibits empathy, actively listens, and offers assistance and direction. A servant leader who encourages collaboration supports personal development, and honors team members' opinions would create an environment that inspires innovation, creativity, and trust among team members.

Conclusion:

The values of empathy, selflessness, and service are brought forward when servant leaders focus on their styles. We can see how effective servant leadership is at leading subordinates by contrasting it with conventional methods. Servant leaders put their team members' welfare first, which boosts engagement, output, and satisfaction. By adopting the idea of servant leadership, we support an office culture that values people, encourages development, and upholds moral leadership standards.

What role does a servant leader's personal style play in fostering successful leadership and a healthy work environment in your view?
