Firebird Metals Ltd has been striving to establish its market in EV automotive battery production with its Oakover Manganese Project for expanding its production through Manganese sulfate batteries production  in China.



Oakover Manganese Project 

Firebird Metals Limited, an Australian corporation, owns the Oakover Manganese Project, a large manganese resource in Western Australia.  

The project has a Mineral Resource Estimate of 176.7 million tonnes at 9.9% manganese, making it potentially long-term and high-grade.  

In March 2025, Firebird Metals won Mining Lease 52/1086, and in December 2024, an agreement was made with the Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation.  

The Oakover Manganese Project is projected to serve as a key source for the company's proposed manganese sulphate factory in China, which will produce high-purity (MnS04 ) Manganese Sulphate for Electric Car batteries.

Manganese extraction in China  

Firebird Pvt Ltd is extracting Manganese for Oakover Manganese Project in China, to expand the battery-grade manganese we have established a battery-grade manganese plant in China, which is a strategic location for the company for EV battery production. 

The company has engaged its R& D team in a research which focuses on development and producing LMFP batteries — a type of lithium-ion battery that utilizes Manganese,  and a  promising alternative material that  potentially reduces cost and improves energy density in traditional lithium-ion batteries.

The Company's mineral extraction permit has been granted by the Chinese government, and is commemorating 80 percent of the mineral requirement for the battery production, as per the reports.

The Oakover Manganese Project began in the district of Australia 2023, and  has recently expanded to establishing power plants in Jinshi High-Tech Industrial Park, China  for producing Battery‑grade Manganese sulphate.

The CEO Peter Allen said in his press release, Manganese is a cost effective material that can be used in the EV battery, and Oakover Manganese Project in China supplies the same; moreover, it has a facilitate chemical park to smoothly extract Manganese. 

Battery‑grade Manganese sulphate


The company has established their power plant in China  for producing manganese sulfate and to attain pure Manganese for integration in the lithium ion batteries. It is producing 72,500 tonnes/year of Manganese and has been extracted for the production of the Manganese Sulfate— vital in producing an efficient LMFP cathode battery.

The MLFP batteries; thus, have met 80% percent of manganese requirements and the cathode battery production has already begun.

Also the Company has reached a "significant milestone" in its goal of producing low-cost battery-grade Manganese Sulfate and Manganese Tetra Oxide (Mn3O4)  for electric vehicles production.

Strategic Global Tie ups 

rebird Metals (ASX:FRB) has signed an MOU with French mining company Eramet to supply ore for its battery-grade manganese plant in China. The plant produces Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate batteries for efficient electric automotive solutions.

The extraction of manganese has a strategic significance for the Company, especially with the Oakover Manganese Project in China; which has significantly been a major  company’s plant and establishing a battery-grade manganese plant in China as a strategic location for the EV battery production. 

To have more efficiency in the delivery, the company has signed an MOU with French mining company Eramet, which is managing the supplement of manganese ore for running the battery-grade manganese plant in China.

The firebird batteries consist  of 99.8% pure Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate, with a Capacitance that exceeds the average 230 kWh/tonne energy production, and a better energy density than lithium ion phosphate  batteries for electric vehicles. 

In an interview, Peter Allen, CEO of Firebird Metals Limited, stated that manganese sulfate is a cost-effective material for cathode-battery manufacturers. The batteries have been evaluated for efficiency, have a high energy density, and provide energy for MLFP batteries.

Manganese is a mineral used for making every crucial item and also in the cathode material of lithium-ion batteries, particularly in NMC batteries (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt batteries)  which is  widely used in electric vehicles and other energy storage systems.

The Manganese acquired by producing from the power plant based in China is galvanized  and produced to facilitate manufacturing of an energy efficient EV batteries which are a obtained from technological resource and scientific research by the Chinese research profession team —conducting a range scientific experiment,  filing the scientific patent and conducting research and development for producing a low-cost manganese battery‑grade Manganese sulphate— which significantly helps in obtaining Manganese purity; as the  sulphate melts and leaving only the pure manganese as residual material.
