leader is someone who possesses the capabilities to make people do more and achieve more. These capabilities are rooted down to their personalities which is almost impossible to replicate or find elsewhere.The aim of these leaders is to see people function or work at their maximum capacity or their very best. 

This type of leadership usually results in increased levels of performance, motivation, and job satisfaction (Farnsworth, 2020). In this article, we will delve deep in the concept of transformative leadership and challenges a leader good leader goes through.

What Key Characteristics Should A Transformative Leader Possess? 

  1. Ability to create a relationship that is beyond a usual professional relationship between them and their subordinates. They create personal bonds with their followers which helps them gain some sense of belonging and hence pledge their  allegiance to their leader. Transformational leaders motivate others to follow them, and work on the vision (Bill Hogg, 2015)

  1. The ability to direct Employees to achieve organisational goals: Influencing, guiding, and supporting employees, transformational leaders are with employees through all the activities of the organisation. Making them understand what the organisation’s goals are and how to get to them. This in turn makes them feel involved in the organization’s successes.

  1. Transformative leaders serve a role model figure to subordinates, with a captivating persona that pushes employees to want to be like them. They provide opportunities for learning and progress, and they exhort their followers to take on new challenges and responsibilities. (Towler, 2019).

  1. The Transformative leader possess ability to feel be in subordinates’ shoes, despite holding high organisational positions, transformative leaders can humble down themselves to fit and fill in the shoes of their subordinates, a very good example would be teacher in your class, one who transform teacher by educating them. 


How Beneficial Is Transformative Leadership?

There are several benefits to using a transformative leadership style. In order to do big things, their followers must first be inspired and motivated by transformational leaders (Lakshmi S, 2020). Around their vision, they inspire passion and vigour, which inspires others to perform well and achieve goals.

Finally, transformational leaders may create a culture of ongoing progress. By putting a focus on individual growth, they help create a culture of learning and development.

Business Transformational Leadership Challenges

Although applying a transformational leadership style in a professional setting has many benefits, it also places an excessive dependence on the leader (Indeed Editorial Team, 2021). As such, If the leader is unable to serve or quits the organisation, problems may arise.

The standards set by the transformational leader makes employees overcharged with the feeling that they can achieve so much. When these expectations are not met, it leads to a demoralised workforce who may feel like a failure and hence engage in unproductive behaviours

Transformational leadership is a powerful leadership style that has a big impact on an organization's success. By inspiring and motivating followers, creating a shared goal, emphasizing personal development, and providing emotional/personal support, transformational leaders can achieve great things.
