HOW TO ADOPT THE PERSONAL STYLE TO ENSURE SUCCESS

One topic remains at the forefront of the ever-changing leadership landscape: What personal style should managers embrace to achieve success? This question has been the subject of in-depth study and discussion during the past century. With a focus on efficient management and motivating leadership, more consultative and active methods have gradually replaced the traditional "command and control" style (3 Ways to Develop Your Sense of Style, 2023). We will examine two important aspects of this issue in this blog post. Based on leadership research, we will first analyze and contrast the features of management and leadership that are similar and different (Roner, n.d.). Second, we will examine the best method for supervising subordinates' work. In our conversation, we will reference relevant ideas, give real-life examples, and conclude with our viewpoints supported by theory and experience.

Comparing and Contrasting Management of Leadership

When it comes to leadership, we all know it is essential to understand the difference between management and leadership. Although these phrases are frequently used similarly, they represent various viewpoints and modes of expression (Adapting Your Leadership Style in a Changing Environment - Blog -, n.d.). Management's primary areas of concentration are activities, procedures, and systems, emphasising effectiveness and productivity (Nayar, 2013). On the other hand, leadership is focused on motivating others, inspiring them, and promoting innovation. Let us compare and contrast management and leadership qualities to understand these ideas better.

What similarities do both have?

Both management and leadership include guiding individuals and teams toward achieving goals and objectives. They need to be able to make decisions, communicate effectively, and persuade others (Becker, 2022). Also, management and leadership are complementary in their tasks, and both are essential to the development of an organization.

Moreover, what differences do they both have?

Leadership focuses on accepting change and looking to the future, whereas management focuses on upholding stability and order. Leadership is based on influence, inspiration, and relationship-building, while management is frequently linked to power, control, and task-oriented operations (Duggal, 2022). Compared to management, which seeks to ensure that activities are carried out effectively and within predetermined boundaries, leadership pushes employees to realize their full potential by fostering engagement, innovation, and personal growth.

Managers can modify their styles to include management and leadership by understanding the similarities and distinctions between the two disciplines (Thompson, 2017). A successful leader understands the importance of successfully managing duties, supporting the development of their team members, and promoting a collaborative and innovative culture.

The best technique for Managing Sub-ordinates

After examining the differences between management and leadership, let us focus on the best method for monitoring the work of subordinates (Insperity Staff, 2015). Numerous studies have illuminated leadership philosophies, each with advantages and applicability in different circumstances. When choosing the best course of action, it is crucial to consider organizational culture, team dynamics, and individual qualities.

The transformative leadership style is seen as one highly effective strategy. Transformational leaders inspire and encourage their team members by defining a compelling vision, establishing high standards, and giving people the freedom to accomplish outstanding achievements (Yorges, n.d.). They inspire invention and creativity, cultivate a sense of ownership, and offer assistance and guidance. Transformational leaders foster an environment that fosters both individual and organizational success by encouraging the personal development of their team members (Farnsworth, 2020).

Good leaders like Elon Musk and Indra Nooyi exhibit traits consistent with a successful personal style. Their inspiring leadership, emphasis on innovation, team empowerment, and adherence to values foster a supportive and effective workplace. Conversely, bad leaders like Elizabeth Holmes and Jordan Belfort serve as warning tales (Evanish, 2018). Their immoral conduct, lack of moral character, and self-centered attitude demonstrate the harmful effects of bad leadership.

Remembering that there is no one-size-fits-all strategy for managing subordinates is crucial. Flexibility in leadership is required due to various circumstances and individual traits. In some situations, a more participative or consultative approach that values and incorporates employee input and ideas into decision-making processes may be beneficial. In other circumstances, a servant leadership approach that prioritizes the needs of subordinates might result in a highly motivated and engaged staff.

Conclusion

Developing a personal style that ensures success involves an in-depth understanding of management and leadership ideas. Managers may create a comprehensive strategy that blends efficient task management with motivating leadership by recognizing the similarities and distinctions between the two. Also, the organizational setting, individual traits, and other variables influence the best method for managing subordinates. Employee empowerment, innovation, and success can all be influenced by a flexible leadership style combining transformational, participatory, and servant leadership.
