Must-watch 5 Netflix thrillers to watch this fall in 2024.

1. Rebel Ridge (2024)

Director: Jeremy Saulnier

Cast: Aaron Pierre, Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb.

The inconsiderate list is The Rebel Ridge, one of the best Netflix original thrillers in 2024. The movie cuts to Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) attempting to get bail money returned that local law enforcement had confiscated from his cousin wrongly.

The more Terry digs, the muddier a Totten Damonian swamp grows around him, and he winds up playing an increasingly dangerous cat-and-mouse game with police chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson). This movie has much more tension than the last, with unexpected moments and an unpredictable plot. Rebel Ridge is an unforgettable watch, thanks to the gritty realism and well-choreographed action sequences we have come to associate with Saulnier.

2. Watcher (2022)

Director: Chloe Okuno

Cast: Maika Monroe, Karl Glusman, Burn Gorman

Watcher is fantastic for anyone who likes a slow-burn psychological thriller. The film follows Julia (Maika Monroe), an American woman who has recently moved to Bucharest with her husband. But as she tries to settle in outside of her homeland, things get a lot worse when she sees an onlooker from the building across.

Tension grows as Julia finds out that there is a serial killer in the city who takes advantage of young women. Is the man following her a killer, or is Julia losing it? However, Monroe throws old scepticism out the window with a performance so beguiling that Watcher makes for an exciting thriller up until the final few minutes.

3. The Killer (2023)

Director: David Fincher

Cast: Michael Fassbender, Tilda Swinton

David Fincher, the auteur behind so many psychological thrillers you can hardly count them all on one hand (try two or three, maybe), is back with The Killer; an elegant, fast-paced film that will likely attract fans of this trope.

Michael Fassbender plays the methodical assassin in his latest job. But the script gets flipped, and now he is running from those who hired him. The Killer features Fincher's precision and the action—best of all, with Tilda Swinton in support. Broken into six chapters, the film builds suspense with each kill and sinuously glides as the assassin moves to his next target. It's easily one of Murder in the Fourth Estate's best Netflix thrillers, full to overflowing with crisp dialogue, moody intrigue, and cleverly constructed suspense.

4. Nocturnal Animals (2016)

Director: Tom Ford

Cast: Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon

If you want something more developed and emotionally stirring, check out Nocturnal Animals. An art gallery owner, Susan (Amy Adams), is sent a manuscript of her ex-husband's new novel in this psychological thriller.

As she discovers what the story is really about and how it mirrors their abusive past together, this leads her down a path of self-reflection, casting doubt over some chilling revelations. Visually, the film is a gorgeous spectacle, with predictable stylishness from Ford's days in fashion design. One of the intelligent, sexy thrillers of 2016, Nocturnal Animals constantly keeps viewers on edge and deep in thought by using elements like revenge to traverse dark caverns mired with regret or inner turmoil.

5. Leave the World Behind (2023)

Director: Sam Esmail

Cast: Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke

Leave the World Behind is an excellent addition to this list. That apocalyptic thriller premiered in November last year and soon landed on Netflix. Adapted from a best-selling novel by Rumaan Alam, the film follows Amanda (Julia Roberts) and her family as they escape to an upscale vacation home for a weekend getaway.

However, that peaceful getaway is short-lived after the house’s owners (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) come back to warn that society will soon crumble. When technology and communications do not return, paranoia and fear escalate with the families in an increasingly hostile world. This fall, you can catch the terrifying tale of trust and survival in a new must-see Netflix thriller.

Conclusion

Fall is the perfect time to watch thriller films, and Netflix has a variety right now: suspense-filled psychological thrillers and intense action films. They provide more than the mindless jump scares and cheap thrills of others—they are thought-provoking even while entertaining. With darker, cooler autumn nights creeping in, these suspenseful movies are just what you need to watch! Rebel Ridge brings intense action, Watcher is full of psychological suspense, and Leave the World Behind offers spooky apocalyptic vibes, So make yourself comfortable with a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea for spine-tingling nights that are trespass your mind into your dream state.
