Introduction
When questioning a group of people, how they comprehend a good leader, the answer is predictable Decisive, compassionate, and inclusive; very pretty reference to democratic style. We have heard of many good leaders like Martin Luther king, but do they practically exist?
Does a leader lead to induce positive change or is it some narcissistic need that comes in to choose to be a leader? Many management theories and organizational behaviorists like Karp Karp are more to just compassion and inclusive leadership (Karp , 2020)
Types of Destructive Leadership
When you look around in the office, you will notice some of the destructive leaders, but they dispute and destruction they cause in unparallel to another, one might belittle you because he thinks he is the best, and other insults you because he thinks you are unworthy of your position; both may sound similar but happen entirely different, this you will learn to protect yourself ( The Warwick school , 2013).
There are four types of leadership:
There are four types of dark leadership that should be taken into consideration: -
Abusive leaders
Abusive leaders are one which involve use of abusive languages and mentally exploitative behavior, paying people low wages work the amount of work they do.
Not giving recognition for the work, and bully employees that are weak and fragile enough to bear their torture, it is said the more you bear more justification they get.
Toxic leaders
A toxic leader is a leader the one that very much follows an autocratic style of leadership, the one that dominates and dictate the direction of the work, leader have absoluter control of direction the flow of work must depend on the worker’s and their creativity to come up creatively with the task. (Bass, n.d.)
Narcissistic leaders
Narcissistic Leaders can be spotted among those group that relentlessly hope a promotion without hard work, for the sake of promotion., they will put thew health of employee at risk, expect the o work tirelessly and workers to work faster near the deadliners. (Mackey et .el. ,
petty Tierney
They are the dark leaders that with volatile ego, cannot resist small amount of the opposition from the party, questioning does not sound good to their ears, and will overreact in unnecessary occasions.
Pseudo transformational
Pseudo transformational leaders are manipulative leader, who motivate you to serve their purpose rather than organization, give you false hope of transforming your skillset and overburden employees with the tasks with unrealistic deadlines.
Importance of Dark side of leadership
One needs to learn about the dark side of the leadership because such leader produces negative impact on employee’s psychology, transporting them from smart productive mindset to sluggish and dull mindset; harming their self -esteem. They come with severe consequences
Consequence of Destructive and Narcist Leadership.
Destructive and narcist leader are promotor of psychological abuse, they create a environment prone to psychological abuse and work p-lace bullying, the very two things these leaders is workplace disruption and reduce productivity of the employee,
Disruption of the workplace
The destructive leaders being at the dark side, does not like being to be questioned or accept any kind of disagreement; thus, they try to put you down by not properly instructing the task, backbite and make sure to make every move to get you fired from the job.
A destructive leader makes and atmosphere of fear of mistaking, fear of mistake or error does not encourage healthy work process, rather the employees find ways to get the job done hook or by crook, resulting in faulty work. (G, 2020)
Lower productivity of employees
Continuous failure reduces level of motivation after level of rejection an employee receives, an employee being human require short victory in each interval, which one rarely get as result of continuous failure, enhancing level of stress hormones, which make employees to lose (Karp, 2020)
Workplace disruption reduces the employee’s productivity due to the constant failure one receives, when they are unable to properly function in their workplace resulting in low productivity of employee.
Conclusion:
The Dark leaders make workplace dysfunctional due to their incapability to understand, empathize and recognize people’s talents.
